YMCA Youth & Family Services is focused on bringing about meaningful and lasting change in youth, adults, and families by ensuring they have a safe place to live, connecting them to critical resources, building them a reliable support system, and empowering them to pursue their goals and dreams. Whether securing housing, meeting basic needs, or building community, we believe strong connections—to resources, communities, and each other—make all the difference.

Our Advocacy Efforts

Inspiring Action and Positive Change

The mental health crisis among children and teens is a national concern, with challenges that are unprecedented and deeply impactful. Here in San Diego County, the urgency is clear—data from 2019 reveals that an average of six young people were treated for attempted suicide every day. At the Y, our vision is a future where no young person in San Diego County loses their life to suicide.

That’s why we advocate for solutions that ensure all young people can access the care and support they need. We collaborate with policymakers, community leaders, and partners to expand mental and behavioral health resources across San Diego County. Our efforts focus on building a continuum of care that provides support in accessible, community-based settings while ensuring affordability for families. We also work to equip those who interact with youth—like educators and caregivers—with the training they need to create safe, supportive environments for children and teens.
