Global Outreach
The Y is an organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to strengthen the community. We are dedicated to supporting, welcoming, celebrating, educating and connecting the wide range of demographic populations in the U.S. and around the world, so that all people can reach their full potential and our changing communities are united and strong.
building community
global service
As part of the YMCA of the USA World Service Campaign, we recognize our responsibility as part of a global movement. The YMCA of San Diego County is active in the international community, working with partner Ys in other countries to promote long-term, sustainable development. Partnerships are developed based on the mutual interests of both Ys and include activities like trips for relief or development, youth exchange, service learning and cross-cultural education. Our current partners are listed below.
Mexico – Strategic planning, technical assistance, population engagement, fundraising development, camp counselor exchanges and service projects.
Brazil – The International Youth Program includes service exchange, leadership skills, and curriculum to foster cross-cultural global learning.
South Africa – Educational and cultural exchanges, community service projects.
These efforts are carried out thoughtfully to enhance our mission in San Diego County and we strive for mutual growth, learning, and benefit of all involved.
COMMUNITY BRIDGING & ENGAGEMENT
The Y excels by intentionally engaging the entire organization, actively involving staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of our efforts both locally and globally. This helps our YMCA create an environment where members and the community feel appreciated, connected and welcomed. Ensuring that Y staff, volunteers, members and community stakeholders know and represent the community is vital to organizational success and advancing the Y’s key pillar of strengthening community.
Recruitment and Retention: The Y recruits talented individuals from an expansive pool of candidates and actively seeks ways to promote and support current staff and volunteers.
Leadership Development: Staff and volunteers are trained to lead through the development of cultural competencies, as well as through participation in a variety of professional development opportunities.
Community Engagement of immigrant and newcomer populations.
