About the YMCA of San Diego County

The YMCA of San Diego County is a nonprofit with a mission to nurture a healthy spirit, mind, and body so all can thrive while honoring our faith-based heritage. The YMCA of San Diego County is the largest YMCA association in the nation, serving nearly 400,000 San Diego County residents and employing more than 4,500 people.

Through a variety of programs and services focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y unites men, women and children — regardless of age, income or background — to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

As the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community, the Y believes strong communities are possible only when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. To bring about meaningful change, individuals need ongoing support, encouragement and connections to others — all of which the Y provides in abundance.

Areas of Impact

We focus our work in three key areas because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.

Youth Development

At the Y, kids learn their ABCs, learn to share, learn about sportsmanship, build leadership skills and, most importantly, learn how to be themselves. That makes for confident kids today and contributing adults tomorrow.

Healthy Living

We bring together children, adults and families across San Diego like no other organization can, providing the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.

Social Responsibility

Our Y staff, volunteers, and donors strengthen communities in countless ways. We work with our neighbors every day to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
