here’s what parents have to say
“Family. That’s what the Mottino YMCA means to us.
My child started the YMCA as a 4-year-old terrifi ed
to go beyond the fi rst step in the pool, but with the
encouragement and patience of the aquatics staff he
became a little fi sh. Over the last fi ve years he has taken
swim lessons, played soccer and attended day camps.
The YMCA has been a safe haven for him. As an autistic
boy with epilepsy, he constantly navigates a world not
made for him, but the YMCA is made for him — it’s made
for everyone. The Day Camp staff have been instrumental
in his growth. They support him by helping him navigate
social rules, gently pushing him beyond his comfort zone
and celebrating his achievements. When I pull out of the
parking lot after dropping him off at camp, I know he’s safe
with caring and capable adults. That’s a peace you can’t put
a price on.”
