A Place for Every Ability

Adaptive Programs at the Y

Belonging Starts Here

At the YMCA of San Diego County, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Our adaptive programs are designed to create inclusive, supportive environments where individuals of diverse abilities can build confidence, develop skills and experience the joy of being part of a community.

From sports and swim to camp and social programs, we meet participants where they are — celebrating every milestone and making space for every story. Whether you’re exploring something new or continuing a journey, the Y is here for you.

Connect with your local YMCA branch to explore available adaptive programs and find the best fit. Availability is limited and not guaranteed, so we strongly encourage reaching out to learn more about current offerings as programs vary across branch locations.

ADAPTIVE PROGRAMS AT A GLANCE

GYMNASTICS

Participants build strength, coordination and confidence through climbing, balancing, swinging and more in fun and supportive classes. Classes focus on motor skills, body awareness and foundational gymnastics in an accessible way.

Swim

Participants learn water safety and foundational skills at their own pace in a calm, supportive environment. Classes build confidence, independence and comfort in the water while having fun.

Camp

Campers will participate in activities based on their camp they are enrolled in, as well as other camp activities based on their interests at a pace that works for them. The Y adapts the camp experience to your child's needs and abilities, allowing opportunities for all campers to learn new skills, form new friendships and create lifetime memories.

Teens in Motion

Participants, ages 12-22, build life skills, social connections and confidence through engaging activities. TIM operates during the school year and school breaks, as well as the summer camp season. As an age-dependent program, TIM is available at limited YMCA locations and school sites.

CAMP I CAN

(Camp Including Children with Autism NOW) was created by the Autism Society San Diego in partnership with the YMCA to provide a fun, safe and nurturing camp experience for campers ages 6-17. CAMP I CAN is offered during the summer at the Ecke Gymnastics Center in Carlsbad & Toby Wells YMCA in Kearny Mesa. Must be a member of the Autism Society San Diego to attend.

RESPITE CARE

Provides caregivers with short-term, flexible relief while their loved ones receive attentive, compassionate support. Led by trained staff, the program helps reduce burnout and support caregiver well-being. A trusted resource so families can rest, recharge and feel confident in their care.

San Diego Regional Center Partnership

Providing inclusive access to YMCA memberships, programs and social opportunities. Available to SDRC participants at no cost through a shared commitment to community support. Together, we’re creating pathways for individuals of all abilities to thrive.
